How do I send my files?
After we discuss beginning details, I will be sending you a file request from Dropbox. This file request will prompt you to a folder in which will allow you to import up to 50 GB worth of content. If a file request is unavailable or you need more space, I will then prompt you to upload via WeTransfer.
Multitracks?
I always tell clients multitracks are king. I can critique each element of the record when I have the mulitracks, but I also understand some people download instrumentals via YouTube, BeatStars, etc and those are just summed .mp3 or .wav of the instrumental. That would basically be me only mixing your vocals against the 2track which only has so much room to adjust things. If you’re fine with that, by all means, I will mix it but I do encourage getting ownership of the mulitracks!
How and when should I pay?
All payments are typically processed through my site. You should be able to pay by any major credit/debit card. The full payment will need to be processed before work is started. However, if you need any other arrangements such as payment plans, those are available too! I am fully flexible. Just speak with me!
How long will the mixing take?
Projects vary in size and mixing is extremely nuanced. I’ve turned single songs around in 1 to 2 days. I like to say a week for single songs because what you may like today may have hidden blemishes jump out tomorrow. In the mixing process, I send multiple “prints” of my progress. Usually, clients have feelings and critiques about certain elements. I then go back and start fulfilling those critiques. How many critiques you have is mostly however long the mixing will continue to go on for. If you’ve paid for a quick mix, while I don’t necessarily treat those as inferior to the multitrack mixes, my efforts aren’t as advance for the quick mix in order to fulfill it being “quick”. For larger projects such as albums, although also outputted at various times, typically we do a solid 3-4 months. As mentioned, it’s extremely nuanced and up to how high of a level of mixing you’re looking to possess but if you have a deadline, I try to work tightly to what your deadline commands.
How can I keep track of my files?
I mostly work exclusively through Dropbox. Clients who also use Dropbox are able to sync with their project folder, and get updates much faster. So I recommend a paid Dropbox account to stay in touch, however, a paid account is not a necessity. If you are a free Dropbox user, you will still be able to view the folder that I send you titled “prints”. There is a web verion of Dropbox including a app version. I do recommend the app, but if you’re a web browser (or mobile web browser) that should be fine as well.
I send mixes in the following naming convention:
MIXING
SONGTITLE_ SONGBPM_ MIXORGDATE_ MIXVERSION_MIXVERSIONDATE_MIXBYSPADEY
MYBLUES_ 60BPM_ 5_13_03_MIX01_5_17_03_(MIX.WHEREISSPADEY)
MASTERING
SONGTITLE_ MASTERVERSION_ MASTERDATE_
MYBLUES_ MAS01_ 5_25_2003
What will I receive?
Clients record at various sample rates, so whatever you’ve recorded at will be what you receive back. I typically mix between 44.1kHz and 48kHz, however, if needed I can export at 96kHz as well. Deliverables depend on what you’ve purchased. My standard final is 44.1kHz/48kHz 24Bit .WAV but feel free to request others!
